Here are a few of my best growing tips that I’ve learned from growing ranunculus for 4 years:

-make sure you are planting them suuuuper shallow. Like 2” under the soil is perfect! Then they don’t have to work super hard to grow above the soil. If you plant them too deep you will not have long stems!
-plant ranunculus in well draining soil where water won’t sit for long. The biggest killer of ranunculus is rot due to sitting water!
-try not to overwater—I don’t typically have to water mine much until they start budding up and it starts getting warm! (I live in a rainy area)
-plant in FULL sun. They love their sunshine!
-ranunculus are heavy eaters so I always work in a lot of compost into their beds before planting, and then feed them fish emulsion before and after they start blooming.

Happy Monday! I thought I’d challenge myself to make a compote arrangement (of which I haven’t made in a little bit!) purely out of ball shaped dahlias before the dahlia season ends. It was a fun little challenge and I enjoyed the peachy/mauve/rust tones! I’d actually say the arrangement looks more orange toned and peachy in person than in the video, the video makes it look a little more pink! The ball dahlia varieties I used were: Valley Rust Bucket, KA’s Keltie Rose, Bracken Rose, Valley Porcupine, Bloomquist Pink Parfait, & Koko Puff. 💗 I think KA’s Keltie Rose is my new fav & the plant is super prolific in pumping out blooms! Highly recommend growing her :)

Also, we are now at the time of year where I’m checking the weather forecast to see if there is any frost on the horizon….so far it’s looking like we are okay for the next 10 days here in Burlington WA! (You truly never know though—the weather surprises me sometimes 🙈) I’ll be sad when the dahlias are done blooming for the year, but I’m excited—but also dreading the cold to be honest—for the slower tasks and pace of winter! 🍂🍁

I got to attend a local dahlia hybridizing event last night with the amazing Kristine Albrecht (@santacruzdahlias) and Hailey Sly (@rivermerlefarm) at @the.dahlia.house dahlia feild! They both are truly a wealth of knowledge!

Kristine spoke first & I didn’t know she had been in the dahlia hybridizing industry for 19 years! Truly so honored that she and her husband made the trip up to the valley to share her knowledge & to showcase her gorgeous dahlias :) I found it super interesting when she talked about working with florists and their color needs for the wedding industry when hybridizing dahlias!

Then Hailey spoke! She has an *amazing* collection of dahlias she has bred & relased over the years, as well as SO many gems that she has yet to release! The AMAZING anemone dahlias you see are some she is working on 🤭 I’m obsessed with them!!

All in all, it was such a sweet night thanks to Anne @the.dahlia.house for hosting this event at her feild! I got to meet several online flower friends, catch up with friends, and chat with other flower farmers I hadn’t met in in real life so that made the night extra fun too 🫶

Sorry if I’ve seemed a little MIA over here lately—I decided to take the first week of September off of social media (my sis and Dad did it with me too!) and boy oh boy was it SO nice to unplug!! My two takeaways: I really noticed how much my brain was more quiet and focused on the task at hand & it was educational in showing me how much time I spend on these apps 🙈 Highly recommend!!

Anyways, I forgot to share this garden arrangement I threw together in late August for a friend! I think the ‘versailles flush’ Cosmos are my favorite part—the dust of blush on their petals is to die for ✨✨

My unique floral cooler setup!

I’m a small scale flower farmer and beginner florist and this solved all my problems & is exactly what I needed for the wedding I did this past weekend!

My ‘studio’ can now be anywhere I set up this pop-up cooler from my Dad’s company @wildmeatgear! (Yes, I’m a lil bit biased haha!) Its intended use is a large packable fridge to keep meat fresh for hunters, but I’ve used it as a floral cooler and it’s amazing and has SO MUCH space inside! It easily stays between 38-42 degrees fahrenheit while it’s 80 degrees outside and the tent completely packs down!

It keeps blooms fresh, travels anywhere, and sets up in minutes. Florist friends, it may not be as cute as a glass floral cooler, but you are gonna want one of these for the convenience!!

I convinced @wildmeatgear to put up a package on his website for florists ~specifically~ that’s a bit cheaper than the hunters package (there is a pole system that is needed for hunters but not for a floral cooler).

The kit includes:
-Insulated foldable Meatlocker tent with a custom cutout for an A/C duct and mount for CoolBot
-Stainless steel table for supporting the A/C unit

Also, the only additional items you’ll need to purchase are one of the recommended A/C units and a CoolBot device that helps the A/C unit get cooler!

Some people nap and do yard work on Sunday afternoons…I make a chaotic mess of flower debris on my deck from flower arrangements 🤭

I made this compote arrangement yesterday just to play with flowers — no plan (okay maybe a loose plan..) and no pressure. And somehow, it turned out to be one of my favorite creations! I think it’s because the color palette is one of my favorites.

This is a simple reminder that creativity doesn’t always need a deadline…for me I just need time to create!

This is my first year trying to grow pansies from seed and so far it’s been quite successful from the beginning!

I’ve been dead heading my pansies often lately trying to get the plants to grow stronger roots. The one thing I’m curious about is how tall they will grow and if I can use them at all as cut flowers. I planted them 2-4” apart so I’m hoping as they get bigger that they will grow taller and use each other to climb! There is truly so much beauty in these sweet little flowers 💗 I mean how can you not love them?!

P.s. excuse the dirt sprinkled in the background…the flower petals had some dirt on them because of recent rain and I only realized it was there when I started editing this video 😂 #reallife

Ranunculus are not only one of the best spring cut flowers (in my opinion!) but they bloom at the best time-sandwiching other great early & late spring flowers!

Curious about using soil blocking for starting your seedlings? 🌱

This technique is one of my favorite hacks for starting strong, healthy seedlings all while maximizing my space under grow lights! Soil blocking creates compact cubes of soil in that naturally air-prune roots, leading to healthier transplants with less shock when planting or bumping up to a larger sized pot/cell tray/soil block.

My tips to make the perfect soil block:
-Use a well-moistened seed-starting mix-it should feel like wet brownie batter-this is crucial to the blocks staying together!
-Firmly pack the soil into the blocker (I love the 3/4” size, but I also have and use the 1” size too!), pressing it against the sides for a solid form
-Release onto a tray and plant your seeds in the tiny indentations!
-Once my seedlings are as big as this video, I like to bump them up to 72 cell trays for the rest of the season until I harden them off to go outside!

Four years gone by in the blink of an eye 🥹

It’s been four years since my first post here on Instagram and almost four years since I first started growing cut flowers. I can’t believe it! 🌸

I started growing cut flowers when I started high school. I was 14. It was just what I needed to have a fun and creative outlet to work on outside of school :) & look at Every Bloom Flowers now! I have 1,200ish followers and that feels huge to me. That many people are interested in what I’m doing with flowers?! I can’t thank you all enough for supporting me the last couple years—it’s truly been such a blessing to have met so many sweet online friends through this account as well as dig deeper into my local community.

In the last four years I have: made *many* flower friends, learned lots about growing flowers from seed & bulb (& I have so much to still learn!), played with flowers, killed a lot of seedlings 🌱, successfully grew Italian ranunculus (!!!), survived 3 winters dividing and taking care of dahlia tubers (big win haha), completed my first wedding, launched a website in 2024, hosted my first dahlia tuber sale on my website, have connected with other teens doing the same thing as me on Insta (so so cool!), etc..

Thank you to those who have followed since day one and thank you if you just followed me today 🫶

Dahlia digging has begun!

It’s kind of an abnormal year because I’m beginning this large project and there is no frost on the forecast! On average I have dug my dahlias in late October but as of now it’s early November and time to get these guys out of the ground and into storage. This is the time of year that I’m kind of over dahlias and ready to put them to sleep for the winter season. But don’t you worry! Come spring, I will be very excited again for another dahlia season! It’s normal for me to feel this way this time of year… Can anyone else relate?!😆

Every year I choose to do dahlia digging a little bit differently it seems and I’m figuring out how I like to go about this annual task! This year I’m going to take it a little bit slower and divide my dahlias into three groups just to split up this task into doable parts and not be one big push to get them all out of the ground at once.

Here is a behind the scenes look at the first wedding I did last weekend! It was for a sweet family friend of mine which made it extra special 🤍

One thing that I loved about this wedding was that it was done with only local flowers (minus some burgundy ranunculus) which is so stinking cool! Because it was primarily locally grown flowers and foliage, it had a special garden aesthetic/look that I will never forget ✨

A special thanks to my sister and mom for helping me out big time & just being an extra set of hands to help out over the weekend! Second, I have to shout out @the.dahlia.house and @littlesparrowfarm16 for helping me achieve my ‘only local flowers’ goal for this dreamy October wedding!! 🌸 Oh and I love @wisteriagardensanacortes too!! Such a great venue and even better owners 🫶

I had so much fun with this wedding & I’m still deciding if this will be something I will choose to do in the future or not with Every Bloom Flowers, but this was such a great experience & opportunity to try this out and see it come full circle after months of planning!

This is a dahlia seedling I discovered the other day! Isn’t she a stunner?! I love the quirkiness of this one + the fun ‘peach tea’ coloring!

Growing dahlias from seed is new to me as of this year and I’m kinda loving the surprise of it! What do I mean by the ‘surprise’ you ask? Well if you aren’t familiar with growing dahlias from seed, here is the scoop: dahlias can be grown from seed or tuber. Most dahlias are commonly grown from a tuber. Once you plant a dahlia tuber, by the end of the growing season you will have a clump of tubers that are all exact copies of that tuber you first planted. Now here is the fun and mind blowing part: If you collect seed from your dahlia’s spent blooms (or buy dahlia seed!) EACH seed you plant will be a different unique dahlia and by the end of the season will form tubers that you can save and plant the following year! Yes, they will have some similar characteristics or traits like their mother dahlia but they will be unique in their own way! This is how dahlia are bred and new varieties are formed! Isn’t that so stinking cool?! I told ya 😉

Create a small flower arrangement with me! I’m biased but I think home grown flowers are the best✨🫶

Here are the flower varieties I used!
-Phlox ‘Cherry Caramel’ and ‘Dulce De Leche’
-Scabiosa ‘Snow Maiden’
-A few zinnias from @floretflower and @dawncreekfarm new seeds (most likely ‘precious metals’ and ‘dawn creek blush’ zinnias—I forgot to read the tags when I cut them!)
-Cosmos ‘Apricotta’, ‘Apricot Lemonade’ and ‘Double Click White’
-Cress ‘Attraxa’
-Sweet Pea ‘White Frills’
-Yarrow ‘Summer Pastels’
-Agrostemma ‘Dawn Creek Blush’

The vase I used is handmade from @potsbyemma :)

Dahlia ‘Lakeview Peach Fuzz’! This is definitely one of my favorite dahlias—probably in my top three ✨

My dahlias haven’t taken off this year yet since I got them planted late (this video is from last summer), so looking at videos and pictures of my dahlias blooming last year will suffice for now 🥰
