Happy Monday! I put up a poll the other day asking what things my small audience wants to see more of from me. Some of you said you wanted to learn a bit more about me/get more behind the scenes content on here. So….I wanted to share a few flower-related film photos I took last summer :)

I’m a biiiiiig hobby girl and I’ve always wanted to try out film photography, so I bought a cheap film camera at a garage sale last spring and decide to try it out! I’m no where near understanding all the things that film photography entails and I’m still learning how to simply *use* my camera (thanks Dad for teaching me the basics!), but I’m proud of the few rolls of film I’ve gotten developed so far!

The first few photos are of my flowers and the last two are at one of @the.dahlia.house evening workshops in September 🌸

Anyways, I thought I’d share some of these photos as we are all dreaming of spring and summer ☀️

Here are a few of my best growing tips that I’ve learned from growing ranunculus for 4 years:

-make sure you are planting them suuuuper shallow. Like 2” under the soil is perfect! Then they don’t have to work super hard to grow above the soil. If you plant them too deep you will not have long stems!
-plant ranunculus in well draining soil where water won’t sit for long. The biggest killer of ranunculus is rot due to sitting water!
-try not to overwater—I don’t typically have to water mine much until they start budding up and it starts getting warm! (I live in a rainy area)
-plant in FULL sun. They love their sunshine!
-ranunculus are heavy eaters so I always work in a lot of compost into their beds before planting, and then feed them fish emulsion before and after they start blooming.

Happy Monday! I thought I’d challenge myself to make a compote arrangement (of which I haven’t made in a little bit!) purely out of ball shaped dahlias before the dahlia season ends. It was a fun little challenge and I enjoyed the peachy/mauve/rust tones! I’d actually say the arrangement looks more orange toned and peachy in person than in the video, the video makes it look a little more pink! The ball dahlia varieties I used were: Valley Rust Bucket, KA’s Keltie Rose, Bracken Rose, Valley Porcupine, Bloomquist Pink Parfait, & Koko Puff. 💗 I think KA’s Keltie Rose is my new fav & the plant is super prolific in pumping out blooms! Highly recommend growing her :)

Also, we are now at the time of year where I’m checking the weather forecast to see if there is any frost on the horizon….so far it’s looking like we are okay for the next 10 days here in Burlington WA! (You truly never know though—the weather surprises me sometimes 🙈) I’ll be sad when the dahlias are done blooming for the year, but I’m excited—but also dreading the cold to be honest—for the slower tasks and pace of winter! 🍂🍁

For this 2025 growing season my goal was to add a few more anemone and collarette style dahlias to my collection. (Because collarette and anemone dahlias are some of the happiest looking dahlias in my opinion!!) As of now, this is my small but mighty collection! They are all fun in their own way and I even added a few of my Floret dahlia seedlings into the pictures :) Swipe to the next picture to find out the varieties!

Oh! And I had to leave out a few anemone and collarette dahlias from this due to either them not blooming at the time or just missing this photo day! A few honorable mentions are ‘April Heather’ & ‘Alpen Pearl’ & ‘Appleblossom’ :)

& yes, this is my garage floor 😉

I got to attend a local dahlia hybridizing event last night with the amazing Kristine Albrecht (@santacruzdahlias) and Hailey Sly (@rivermerlefarm) at @the.dahlia.house dahlia feild! They both are truly a wealth of knowledge!

Kristine spoke first & I didn’t know she had been in the dahlia hybridizing industry for 19 years! Truly so honored that she and her husband made the trip up to the valley to share her knowledge & to showcase her gorgeous dahlias :) I found it super interesting when she talked about working with florists and their color needs for the wedding industry when hybridizing dahlias!

Then Hailey spoke! She has an *amazing* collection of dahlias she has bred & relased over the years, as well as SO many gems that she has yet to release! The AMAZING anemone dahlias you see are some she is working on 🤭 I’m obsessed with them!!

All in all, it was such a sweet night thanks to Anne @the.dahlia.house for hosting this event at her feild! I got to meet several online flower friends, catch up with friends, and chat with other flower farmers I hadn’t met in in real life so that made the night extra fun too 🫶

Happy September, friends! Sorry if I’ve seemed a little MIA over here lately—I decided to take the first week of September off of social media (my sis and Dad did it with me too!) and boy oh boy was it SO nice to unplug!! My two takeaways: I really noticed how much my brain was more quiet and focused on the task at hand & it was educational in showing me how much time I spend on these apps 🙈 Highly recommend!!

Anyways, I forgot to share this garden arrangement I threw together in late August for a friend! I think the ‘versailles flush’ Cosmos are my favorite part—the dust of blush on their petals is to die for ✨✨

Got to spend the sweetest evening at a bouquet workshop in my friend Anne’s dreamy dahlia field 🌸✨ (@the.dahlia.house). My grandma treated my mom, sister, and I to a fun girls’ night surrounded by blooms—it couldn’t have been more perfect!

Anne and I first connected back in 2021, and she’s been such a kind supporter of me and all my various flower ventures and creations ever since. I’m so grateful for her encouragement and friendship over the years 💗 It was such a gift to slow down, play with flowers, and share this night with the people I love!! I left realizing how easily I take for granted the gift of being surrounded by flowers each week and visiting this field a few times every summer.
So many of the attendees shared how refreshing it was to simply be outside, in a beautiful place, with fellowship and time to create. For many, it’s not something they get to experience often—and it was such a joy to witness their joy!

In a world that rarely slows down, I love that this place gently reminds us to pause and soak in the beauty. Flowers are so life-giving, and I’m continually in awe of God’s handiwork every time I walk this field. 💛

Anne isn’t doing U-picks at her field this season, but she does have several lovely ticketed events available on her website—including another bouquet workshop in September! If you can make it to any of the events, it’s 100% worth the visit and the dahlias will be even more magical in the next few weeks ✨

A little tour of my dahlia garden & some new dahlia varieties I’m growing! I think it’s fun to see what other people are growing for the first time, even if it’s a dahlia you’ve grown for the past 5+ years! There are just SO many varieties that my wishlist is never ending! (but budgeting helps me practice restraint 😆)

My unique floral cooler setup!

I’m a small scale flower farmer and beginner florist and this solved all my problems & is exactly what I needed for the wedding I did this past weekend!

My ‘studio’ can now be anywhere I set up this pop-up cooler from my Dad’s company @wildmeatgear! (Yes, I’m a lil bit biased haha!) Its intended use is a large packable fridge to keep meat fresh for hunters, but I’ve used it as a floral cooler and it’s amazing and has SO MUCH space inside! It easily stays between 38-42 degrees fahrenheit while it’s 80 degrees outside and the tent completely packs down!

It keeps blooms fresh, travels anywhere, and sets up in minutes. Florist friends, it may not be as cute as a glass floral cooler, but you are gonna want one of these for the convenience!!

I convinced @wildmeatgear to put up a package on his website for florists ~specifically~ that’s a bit cheaper than the hunters package (there is a pole system that is needed for hunters but not for a floral cooler).

The kit includes:
-Insulated foldable Meatlocker tent with a custom cutout for an A/C duct and mount for CoolBot
-Stainless steel table for supporting the A/C unit

Also, the only additional items you’ll need to purchase are one of the recommended A/C units and a CoolBot device that helps the A/C unit get cooler!

Some people nap and do yard work on Sunday afternoons…I make a chaotic mess of flower debris on my deck from flower arrangements 🤭

I made this compote arrangement yesterday just to play with flowers — no plan (okay maybe a loose plan..) and no pressure. And somehow, it turned out to be one of my favorite creations! I think it’s because the color palette is one of my favorites.

This is a simple reminder that creativity doesn’t always need a deadline…for me I just need time to create!

Things are starting to bloom around here!

My sweet peas and pansies are just starting to bloom and will soon take off and snapdragons and Agrostemma are just around the corner. I’ve also had one of my dahlias bloom already (‘Kelsey Annie Joy’!) and many others have buds!

Right now the focus is watering like crazzzzy. We could use a little more rain!

All in all, I am SO ready for summer blooms. I have so many new dahlia varieties I’m eager to see bloom this summer. It’s hard to be patient!

Happy spring friends!!

Now that spring is here (!!!!!) I thought I’d share some photos and highlights from the past couple months :)

-an Anemone bloom from when it was snowing in January!
-Helped @the.dahlia.house out at her booth for the second time at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show! 🌸 I featured a photo of me reacting to Anne’s new wall murals…they are GORGEOUS!
-I planted all my Italian ranunculus and anemones outside and they are flourishing! 🌱
-participated in a local dahlia tuber sale/swap hosted by @rhone.homestead
-Got two new & beautiful books: one on sweet peas by @thefarmhouseflowerfarm and one on pansies by @threebrothersblooms :)
-Some golden hour pictures of the hellebores at @christiansonsnursery ✨
-starting lots of seeds in soil blocks and cell trays (currently on time with my seed starting schedule! 🤭)
-potting up lots of dahlias to start taking cuttings from 🌱
-I also got to play with some fresh tulips and daffodils last week which was a highlight as well 💛

Curious about using soil blocking for starting your seedlings? 🌱

This technique is one of my favorite hacks for starting strong, healthy seedlings all while maximizing my space under grow lights! Soil blocking creates compact cubes of soil in that naturally air-prune roots, leading to healthier transplants with less shock when planting or bumping up to a larger sized pot/cell tray/soil block.

My tips to make the perfect soil block:
-Use a well-moistened seed-starting mix-it should feel like wet brownie batter-this is crucial to the blocks staying together!
-Firmly pack the soil into the blocker (I love the 3/4” size, but I also have and use the 1” size too!), pressing it against the sides for a solid form
-Release onto a tray and plant your seeds in the tiny indentations!
-Once my seedlings are as big as this video, I like to bump them up to 72 cell trays for the rest of the season until I harden them off to go outside!
